HARRISBURG — Some local residents in Lycoming and Union counties will soon benefit from free laptops, thanks to a state broadband initiative. State Senator Gene Yaw says 85 laptops were awarded to Advance Central PA. The funding was through a competitive grant process by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority.
The funding comes from the U.S. Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund. Yaw says the laptops will help people train, apply for jobs, and access key services—especially in rural areas with limited resources. There is no cost to use the devices, and they’re aimed at improving digital literacy and connecting residents to high-speed internet.
