HARRISBURG — For the first time since 2018, the State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) is raising tuition—but students may get that money back. PASSHE trustees approved a 3.6% hike Thursday, increasing tuition by $139 per semester to $3,997. Officials say the increase is necessary with the state budget still undecided.
Chancellor Chris Fiorentino said schools can’t wait, with fall bills going out next week. But if lawmakers approve the system’s requested 6.5% funding increase, the board says it will refund part or all of the hike. PASSHE includes 14 universities across the state and has frozen tuition for six straight years.
