LACKAWANNA COUNTY — WOLF-TV is reporting… Staff at Keystone College are heartbroken after someone stole up to 15,000 bees, a nuc (nuke) box, and hive frames from their on-campus apiary.
The theft, discovered Wednesday evening, involved a colony used for education and community outreach. Beekeeper Shanon Hornung tells WOLF-TV the thief knew exactly what they were doing, likely timing the heist when all the bees were in the hive.
The apiary sits along a public trail, and staff say it’s usually a place of joy and learning. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Keystone College Environmental Education Institute.
