LEWISBURG — The Union County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers pretending to be deputies or judges. Officials say scammers are using real names and spoofed voicemail boxes to sound legitimate. They say the caller may even have personal information like your birth date or family names.
Victims are told they missed jury duty or a court hearing and must pay a fine. Authorities stress the sheriff’s office will never request money over the phone. Anyone receiving such a call is urged to hang up and report it to Chief Deputy Scott Hahn at 570-524-8716.
